I didn’t mean that in the sense of being a worthless endeavor, but in the sense of it not being very effective. I understand about posts getting buried. It’s happened to me, too and sometimes makes me reconsider posting something at a specific time when posts are appearing fast and furious. I’m more 0f a reply person than a post new person, anyway.

Really, this seems to me an unfortunate consequence of the way Kinja is built, as opposed to more multi-threaded, parallel systems. It is part of community building, though; so, I roll with it.

I spent a fair amount of time on a post that was submitted an hour ago, and in that time there have been 22 “theme day” posts (by my count). My post is barely even on the second page.

It’s not a great story or a revolutionary post in any way, but I think it has some value - especially as it relates to automotive goings-on.

It feels like a total waste if I know nobody is going to see it because we’re too busy talking about Laffy Taffy or whatever. On an automotive blog. Makes it a LOT less tempting to spend time producing actual content.

too be fair, its an off topic blog with an automotive theme, but your point is still valid. Its not that I don’t like a little theme day fun, but they seem to take on a momentum these days that makes browsing oppo tedious and unpleasant.

That’s true. I guess my perspective has always been that posts here should largely be at least tangentially automotive-themed, and it’s okay if it gets away from that once in a while. After all, if it doesn’t have some kind of automotive theme, there’s no reason for me to be here (honestly).

To the point of it, it’s like Facebook. If one person posts 40 times per day, it’s going to clutter up the things I see. I unfollow them, and move on until their posting slows down. I don’t really have that option here, so I’m either abandoning ship until the posts stop or scrolling past a few dozen posts about _______.

“Theme Day” posts are great - if someone wants to talk about “My favorite candy” or “My first car” - keeping the discussion to one post makes it easy for people who aren’t interested to get to something that does.

If I came to Oppo and saw a dozen posts in a row about candy, I would not subscribe. Doesn’t interest me. That’s the point I’m trying to make.

Personally, I think it’s more annoying to see 10 posts in a day from one person everyday than it is to see 10 posts from different people occasionally, although both situations affect the overall quality of the site.
